Venus is yet another legendary Nottingham spot. Before it even existed, Baillie was already well in it, running club nights, bars, and acid house warehouse parties around the city.

Once Venus was up and running, he started bringing in other club brands, and Fridays quickly became something special: Flying, Most Excellent, Better Days, Love Ranch, Kinky Disco, DIY, the lot. It was also one of the few places Danny Rampling brought Shoom, alongside nights like High On Hope with Gilles Peterson and Norman Jay. 

I went to plenty of those nights, but I was a proper regular when DJ Sy was playing downstairs—old-school techno, no messing about.
